Professor Robert Feldman tells Eve Ash that people lie for reasons ranging from the benign to creating a deception so as to avoid being pressured.
Professor Robert Feldman and Eve Ash discuss his thesis of “a culture of lies”. People know when others are lying. They might encourage children to lie about liking a present, so as not hurt another person’s feelings. Sometimes people lie to impress others (in job interviews, for example). Sometimes they have gaps in their memory. Sometimes they wish to dispel a traumatic memory, or they create a deception to avoid thinking about something else.
This program is one of the Insights and Strategies Series, featuring psychologist Eve Ash interviewing a range of experts and business leaders who share their experiences and practical strategies for achieving best practice.
