The Impact of Lies

Seven Dimensions
Updated Apr 16, 2020

Lies have many impacts ranging from suspicion of the person telling them, to “You lie so I’ll lie” to relative ease in living with them as time wears on.

With lying so prevalent, what about its impact? Eve Ash and Professor Feldman discuss the many paradoxical effects of lying – from the “spiral effect” (you lied so I’ll lie), to suspicion, forgiveness (especially when a well-known figure is popular on other fronts), inauthenticity in relationships, and compartmentalizing. Professor Feldman remarks that people can lead healthy lives while harboring secrets. The longer they do this, the more guilt and anxiety dissipate.

This program is one of the Insights and Strategies Series, featuring psychologist Eve Ash interviewing a range of experts and business leaders who share their experiences and practical strategies for achieving best practice.
