Grape: A fruit which comes from a family of plants called vines. The type of grapes used for making wine are different to the grapes grown for eating – they are smaller, with thicker skins, and less juicy (pictured above – eating grapes top, wine grapes below).
Vineyard: This is the field where the vines are grown. It can also mean the whole farm that produces the wine, although that is actually also known English as the winery.
Vintage: Grapes grow on vines once a year. They are then harvested and the wine made. If a wine is made from grapes grown all in one year it is called a vintage, and the bottle label will display the year the grapes were harvested.
