Most Australian state and territory governments have put in place laws to “harmonise” work health and safety laws across Australia, helping to provide equal protection and standards to workers in each jurisdiction.

Safe Work Australia is the national policy body responsible for the development and evaluation of the model work health and safety (WHS) laws.

  • Define who holds duties toward protecting health and safety under the legislation;
  • Understand the employer’s responsibilities as PCBU to provide a safe workplace.
