Quality sleep is essential to physical and mental well-being. Recognizing barriers to good sleep and using strategies to minimise disturbances and promote restfulness can have a dramatic impact on the quality of peoples’ everyday life. This topic outlines the elements of quality sleep as well as the age-related changes and other risks to sleeping patterns and routines. A person centred approach to assessment, planning, implementing and evaluating sleep is presented to the learner. Sleep aligns to Standard 3 of the Aged Care Quality Standards.
