Course Overview
In the previous module you learnt that as an educator you have a duty of care to ensure the safety of young children in your family day care service. You focused on the environmental factors that contribute to accidents and injuries in the service and how to provide a safe environment to minimise the risk to children’s health and safety.
In this module you’ll learn about the human factors that contribute to accidents and injuries in the service and ways to take these into consideration to help prevent accidents. You’ll look at the role of supervision in preventing accidents and will be given some guidelines for teaching safety rules to young children. Finally you’ll explore why it is important to provide children with opportunities for risky play while also keeping them safe from injuries.
