Between Triumph and Disaster: The Facebook IPO

The Facebook initial public offering in May 2012 attracted great public hype and attention, but was ultimately a disappointment as the stock price dropped by over half in the first three months after the floatation. We explore the reasons why the IPO failed to live up to the hype, by investigating if the management at Facebook tried to squeeze too much from the market. We also discuss the role of the underwriters in the launch, and examine possible flaws in the way the Facebook IPO roadshow was run.
