Learning Objectives

Through interactive learning and video demonstrations, participants will learn all aspects of the use of personal protective equipment in the healthcare environment.

At the end of this course, participants will:

  1. Know how HAIs are acquired
  2. Describe what the standard precautions are
  3. Identify the difference between standard and
    transmission-based precautions
  4. Know what PPE is available for use by healthcare workers
  5. Be able to select the appropriate PPE according to the circumstances and risks
  6. Be able to don and remove PPE in the appropriate sequence
    to prevent microorganism transmission.
  7. Be able to perform a respirator mask ‘Fit Check’

Business Outcomes

Consistent with the latest best practice evidence and current national and international guidelines, this course provides the learning required to enable participants to apply a decision making framework to the use of PPE. It is consistent with the applicable requirements for infection control contained in NSQHS Standard 3 and ACQS Standard 3.
