Welcome to “HIPAA: The Security Rule,” a video lesson meant to explain the safeguards you must undertake to secure electronic protected health information (ePHI). This lesson is the third of four in the “HIPAA Crash Course,” which is intended to provide a quick but comprehensive look at HIPAA and how it’s applied to the workplace. The three safeguard categories—administrative, physical, and technical—protect the privacy of individuals’ health information, while allowing covered entities (CEs) to adopt new technologies to improve the quality and efficiency of patient care. This lesson will walk you through the three types of safeguards and the standards and implementation specifications associated with them. After viewing this lesson, learners will feel confident that they can shape a security system to protect their ePHI effectively.
