Course Overview

With so much talk about the need to respect each other, there is insufficient understanding of what respect comprises. Peter Quarry explains to Eve Ash that the core ingredients of a respectful workplace culture include courteousness, awareness, acceptance of individual differences, and the valuing of a diversity of skills, cultures and personalities. Respectful workplaces actually make good business sense because employees are more engaged, satisfied with their work and the talent pool is accordingly widened and embraced.

Peter Quarry explains the three foundations to respect (other people’s rights, recognizing individual differences and valuing others’ skills) and how a respectful culture increases engagement and improved job satisfaction.

Learning Objectives

There are three types of respect:

  • Respecting other people’s rights
  • Respecting people’s differences (regardless of ethnicity, race, gender, sexual orientation or age)
  • Respecting competence

These add up to a more respectful work culture.
