When stormwater flows through chemical storage areas, it can pick up hazardous materials. This now-contaminated stormwater can then flow untreated directly into nearby bodies of water used for swimming, drinking, recreation, and farming. Pollution spread by contaminated stormwater is a real problem, and the purpose of this program is to provide workers with a basic understanding of the company's Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan. Also stressed is the point that all employees should be familiar with their responsibilities in controlling stormwater pollution and responding to leaks and spills of potential pollutants.
