Increasing workloads, constant change and an ever-shifting sense of job security. It’s no wonder that our workplace is a hotbed of confusing and often challenging emotions. Sometimes employees don’t even realize that their emotions are causing conflict and negatively impacting their productivity and morale. Managers can often be targets or recipients of non-productive emotions as employees struggle to articulate their frustrations or process unpleasant feedback. When introduced into a coaching or counseling conversation, mismanaged emotions can quickly raise the intensity and consequences for everyone involved. The most valuable managers learn how to accurately identify emotions and the impact they are having in a given situation and can use strategies to successfully diffuse and redirect the non-productive ones.
