Course Overview:

Nurses are at the frontline of providing care to those affected by the virus. This course provides the latest information for nurses working in hospitals and providing care (including triage) to anyone suspected of or confirmed to have COVID-19.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this course participants will be able to:

1.Describe what COVID-19 is.

2.Know how it is transmitted.

3.Know what precautions to take to minimise transmission in the acute hospital environment.

4.Know the current case definitions and the triage procedures for a suspected case of infection.

5.Know the action to take when there is a confirmed case of infection.

6.Know the broad guidelines for the clinical care of people with COVID-19 and what treatments are recommended, the criteria, and which treatments are not recommended.

7.Understand the precautions to take when nursing people suspected or confirmed to have COVID-19.

8.Know how to minimise risk of infection.

Provide patient and family education on precautions to take to minimise transmission in the community.
