Course Overview

An outbreak of gastroenteritis in residentail aged care can be catastrohic and lead to death. It causes suffering and distress to residents and family members, limits family access to relatives and can cause reputational damage to facilities.

This course explains the common causes of gastroenteritits and how to prevent it. It explains how iot is spread, how to contain an outbreak and actions that can be taken to mitigate harm.

The course is consitent with the requirements of the Aged Care Quality Standards, Standard 3, as it relates to minimising infection-related risks.

Learning Objectives

Participants will learn about causes, transmission, risk factors and the current clinical symptoms, treatment and prevention strategies to be used. Participants will learn about isolation and reporting requirements for gastroenteritis outbreaks.
